Early life and equestrian journey

Mylène

Mylène Major, Founder & CEO

My name is Mylène Major, and I was born and raised on a bustling farm where my parents bred, trained, and boarded mostly Quarter Horses and Paint Horses, with the occasional Appaloosas and Haflingers.
Starting at four years old, I immersed myself in local and regional shows, participating in Western and English pleasure riding. Although I had a keen interest in hunters, our farm's focus on Western pleasure limited my exposure to it.
After studying administration and office technologies, I met and married my wonderful husband. We have two amazing children, Mickaël and Anabelle.
While balancing family life, I operated my own workroom as a seamstress/designer specializing in decoration and drapes for about 15 years.
This allowed me to be present for my children while my husband traveled frequently for work. Despite the busy schedule, I managed to ride my mare, Queen, at my parents' farm once a week.
At the age of 30, I decided to pursue my dream of jumping and became involved in hunters and jumpers at Hodgson's Farm. Under the guidance of Allison Barton, I took weekly lessons, fulfilling my lifelong passion for hunter jumpers.
This journey led me to become an instructor at MD Stables, thanks to the mentorship of Magali Morin, who helped me become a certified Equestrian Canada instructor.
Magali helped meet my partner Dempsey, also known as The Force owned by MD Stables, and together we ventured into provincial shows, expanding my horizons even further.

How MAJOR EQ began

Michel & Mylène

Mylène & her father, Michel Major

However, life took a difficult turn when my father fell ill and passed away within four months of being diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm in 2022. He was my hero and the first mentor in my equestrian journey.
During his illness, to keep myself occupied, I started conceptualizing MAJOR EQ. Unsure if it would materialize, I discussed the idea with my friend Melissa Lauzon from Crazy Carousel, who graciously joined me.
The pursuit of this business venture, alongside my family and work at MD Stables, helped me cope with the grief.
MAJOR EQ essentially focus on team branding, leveraging my skills from my administration degree, riding experience, teaching background, and knowledge of fabrics and design.
Since November 2024, MAJOR EQ has evolved into a thriving venture. Although I'm not partnering with Crazy Carousel anymore, I remain a great supporter of Melissa.
I am grateful to my clients, supportive husband, amazing kids, MD Stables family, Chloé Mast who provided me with her extensive network of contacts in the industry and most of all, my father.
Our logo, placed on the left sleeves of some of our items as a tribute to him, symbolizes passing the torch and reminds me that everything will be okay as I honor his memory by naming the company Major, our family name.
